Academic Skills and Content: This project is aligned to the following Next Generation Science Standards:
- HS-PS2-1. Analyze data to support the claim that Newton’s second law of motion describes the mathematical relationship among the net force on a macroscopic object, its mass, and its acceleration.
- HS-ETS1-2. Design a solution to a complex real-world problem by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable problems that can be solved through engineering.
Additionally, productive group work and collaboration are taught and assessed.
Final Product: In this project, students build and test a bottle rocket and rocket launcher, and justifying their design choices using their knowledge of physics. Their content knowledge regarding the mechanics of forces at play in the rocket is assessed through a traditional quiz.

- Using the data, facts, etc to substantiate reasoning for creating particular business model and the effects of the business being added to the affected gentrified areas

Final Product: Students created a 10-12 min pitch to present to a panel of investors/teachers and asked for an investment for their business while explaining how the business would be beneficial in communities affected by gentrification.

]]>Academic Skills and Content: In addition to addressing the Common Core State Literacy Standards (Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening), this project affords students the opportunity to enhance their academic skills in the areas of Collaboration and Critical Thinking. CA History/Social Studies standards addressed in the project include:
- use the class-created revolution framework to determine the cause of revolutions
- compare the French Revolution to another revolution
- analyze the effects of dictatorships on their people
- analyze the motives behind revolutionaries’ actions
- determine the effectiveness of revolutions in improving the lives of citizens
Final Product: A mock trial, entitled Citizens v. Revolution
